Words

Sticks and stones
might break her bones
But I swear his words…
Condescending tone
Toward the woman who loves him
And all he owns
But not enough of herself
To want to be alone
Her words don't matter
Dismissed like class
Never stand behind her
'cept to palm that ass
Won't stand beside her
See through like glass
Reflection reflected
As memories past
Her spirit dejected
She blinked too fast
Couldn't see his rejection
underneath his laughs
Old tape ejected
Side B never was
Side A-stuck on pause
Won't leave
"Just Cuz"
Syllable slap
Verbal rapes
Gave birth to depression
Words cut thru with ease
On her heart their impression
No "thank-you" or "please"
Adjective fights, much aggression
Her mind and soul greaves
At Respects funeral procession
Another noun sodomizing
Pain-- write through it
Script what her heart said
Hurt, rage, lose it
Her words he never read
Deep down she knew it
Told her that he loved her
Her voice-- won't use it
He told her she ain't shit
Self esteem dying
Made love to her last night
dishonest kisses lyin'
Pray to make it right
She promised Him she's tryin'
Stains on fingertips
Fallen tears left drying
BUT
The question marks the answer
On the brink of emotional death
When she can't remember smiles
But knows the last time she wept
With her sanity on trial
Her confidence gone by theft
How can she leave
When she won't accept what's left?
